Sedona. . . the world's 8th wonder!Majestic mountains surround high desert and national forest lands. Gentle creeks wind through canyon walls. Established in 1902, and incorporated in 1988, Sedona is truly one of the nation's most spectacular nature settings and a vibrant community located 100 miles north of Phoenix. Sedona serves as a gateway to the Four Corners area and the magnificent Grand Canyon. With a temperate climate and four distinct seasons, Sedona’s weather makes hiking, biking, tennis and golf year round activities. A haven for artists, the self-employed, retirees and visitors alike, Sedona is an exciting place to live. The Greater Sedona area includes West Sedona, Uptown, the Village of Oak Creek, the Red Rock Loop area and Oak Creek Canyon. The current population of this area is approximately 17,000. Sedona and the surrounding lands are rich in geologic and archeological history. Because of the abundance of national forest lands and the limited private land available, the population will peak within the next ten years. Natural growth control! For a relatively rural area, there is an abundance of cultural activities available in the Sedona area year round. Several annual events that draw locals and visitors alike include Jazz on the Rocks, the Sedona Arts Festival, Jackson Browne Concert to benefit Verde Valley School, Sculpture Walk, Flagstaff Symphony Pops Concert, and the Sedona International Film Festival. The Oak Creek Theatre Company, Shakespeare Sedona and the Sedona Arts Center are just a sample of the organizations that provide opportunities for artists, actors and theatergoers. The addition to the community of the Sedona Cultural Park brings together the efforts and dreams of many people, over 40 years. Being built in phases with phase one now open the Cultural Park includes an outdoor amphitheatre, Yavapai College Sedona Center for Arts and Technology and a visitor’s center.
